Culture and Values

The Urban Electric Co. is a progressive company that takes pride in providing a positive and creative work environment.

We are fortunate to be headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina, one of the most idyllic settings on the East Coast. Living in Charleston offers the best of city, country, and beach – and allows our employees and their families to enjoy a truly balanced lifestyle.

Our location and our corporate culture attract a wide variety of personalities and backgrounds into the UECo family. Jewelers, sculptors, actors, creatives and many others compose an eclectic and fun team. As well, we take great strength from our collection of races, ages, genders, sexual orientations, political affiliations, and religious beliefs.

Get an inside peek at our team by watching the video below as well as our Studio Series videos highlighting individual personalities.

The Urban Electric Co. is committed to supporting local, non-profit organizations that provide a basic need in our community. With this mission in mind, the company and its employees provide time and monetary support to several local groups. As part of our benefits package, full-time employees are provided paid time off to lend a hand at these organizations, which include:

Lowcountry Food Bank – this organization focuses entirely on adult and childhood hunger issues in our surrounding area. The Food Bank’s work includes handling and distribution of millions of pounds of food peryear, and a Backpack Buddies initiative which helps low-income children get nutritional snacks on weekends and after school.

Disabilities Board of Charleston County – we have been a proud partner of the Disabilities Board for over six years and believe strongly in the importance of its mission. The Disabilities Board works with mentally and physically challenged individuals to assist them in finding and preparing for exciting employment opportunities that might otherwise not be available to them. We are privileged to have several of their consumers on our team. To learn more, watch this inspiring video about one of UECo’s very own.

PetHelpers – for the past eight years, we have supported one of the foremost pet rescue organizations in the state as it brings innovative shelter solutions to the serious problems of pet overpopulation. PetHelpers is a no-kill facility, and The Urban Electric Co. is proud to make a significant donation every year to the Fur Ball, their annual fundraising event.

The Urban Electric Co. supports local sports and entertainment venues by purchasing season tickets which are available to anyone at the company. These include tickets to our local professional baseball, hockey and soccer teams, as well as aquarium, theater and symphony events.

To support our employees in their personal efforts at continuous improvement, The Urban Electric Co. has a robust training program that we call UECo U(niversity). This program envelops a wide array of collective and personal improvement opportunities, including safety, manager training, innovation time off, continuing education, and other skills enhancements. We believe strongly that the company benefits when the individual skills of our team are enhanced.

As part of this initiative, the UECo U Grant program allows employees to request funding for opportunities that foster inspiration and learning outside of the office. Employees have received grants for a variety of learning activities including a recent trip for several employees to the Virginia Institute of Blacksmithing.

The company also offers a monthly Lunch & Learn Series where employees learn about topics related to our industry and business as well as how other companies and organizations are using the art of craft in their work. Read about several of the topics below.
